I have talked before about balancing my life with my children, in particular with my youngest child, she is only 8 (the other two are adults now, so they don't really count although they still demand a lot of my time!!!). It is that time of year again that this dilema comes to the fore....school holidays (vacation).
I believe that the school breaks are there to serve a purpose and that is not for giving the teachers a break (although I am sure they appreciate it!) but it is a time of rest and renewal for the children. We have all seen how at the end of term (semester) they are all starting to get a bit ratty and over-tired so come break they have fun, play, relax, get bored a bit (which I am told is extremely important- just cant remember why!), sleep in, renew!
BUT what happens when as a working parent, you are unable to take time off work and they have to go to day camps...sure they have fun, are stimulated but where is the downtime? I am lucky that my parents are still able to have my youngest one for half the holidays so she does get to experience that but that might not always be the case.
Then there is after school care....how my little one would love to come home at the end of the school day like many of her friends, instead of having to stay at school for another few hours. There isn't really an answer to this dilema, I have to work to provide for my family as so many other mums do....and to all you stay at home mums, I am envious of you!!! I know it is extremely hard work but I believe you are doing the most important job there is. All mums whether working at home or working out of home know that it is hard but being a mum is worth it!
Well..... we have managed to have a bit of fun... in the park.... at a country market and a country auction...
