Color… at Sunrise, and Sunset

Color palettes can come from many things.

I am often drawn to acts of nature as a source of inspiration, so here are some images to inspire.

To the left, you have the sunset, as I sometimes see from my back yard. We are looking over the Pacific Ocean, about 4 miles away.

There is nothing like a sunrise. This magnificent one occurred in New Mexico in August. I love the feeling I get when I am up early enough to witness a sunrise. I feel like I own the world.

And now, ... sunset, as witnessed in New Mexico

and the moon.

{thank you style at home!}

I have to give a big thank you to styleathome.com and Style at Home Web Editor Elaine Song for asking me to take part in an online article where 12 bloggers weighed in on their Favorite Fall trend! Check out my favorite for the fall here. I really appreciate that Style at Home loves to create dialogue with bloggers, it's so neat to hear the opinion of others in the blogosphere. I had so much fun participating, thank you Style at Home!

Happy Friday, it's the weekend! I'm gearing up to enjoy all the IDSwest festivities and from the sneak peek at the Opening Gala yesterday, it is guaranteed to be a great show!

Mason Jar Light

This stunning light feature would look fantastic in the centre of any space, and it's something you can create yourself - with these instructions.

Sick of Protective Styling

So I am 5 weeks post relaxer and I'm at the point where I am sick of braids, twists, buns and so-forth. BUT I know for maximum retention, I need to keep my ends protected and I really only need to do this for another 3 months.
I was thinking about getting some half wigs..but to be honest with you, wigs and weaves just aren't my thing. I must admit I wore weaves in the past..usually curly in the back and cornrowed in the front..But I just don't like them on ME anymore.
I took out my twists last night and was going to just wear a bun today...but my hair felt so greasy that I had to co-wash then do an Apple Cidar Vinegar Rinse.
I ended up air-drying in 6 braids..so I wore the braid-out for today and it feels good having my hair down!

I was going to do another set of Cornrows, but I think my edges need a break so I may just wait another week to do that. But then again...I may just change my mind! I'm sure I will get out of this rut soon.

friday five.

I now dedicate this Friday, and every future Friday, to the number Five.
So that on Friday you'll read my Five and you'll feel alive. (Or not . . . I'm just a big fan of rhymes.)
Each Friday you'll find a list of different things.
A gathering of thoughts, or items I find interesting.
(Stop groaning in agony, the poem's ending now . . . lest you call me a crazy, rhyme-loving cow)

Sometimes I wish...
1. Michael never died.
Or changed the color of his skin.
Or hacked up his nose.
Or strung out his hair.
But mostly I wish he was still alive and singing songs that Jive.
RIP Michael. I love you.

2. Punky Brewster still rocked the tv airwaves.
In her neon mis-matching perfection.
Honing her pig-tailed style.
Annoying the creepy old guy she lived with (did anyone else question that one?)
And making us join in the canned laughter with her slap-stick comedy act.

3. Crystal Pepsi was back.
Called a Cola, but looking like carbonated water.
Confusing us with the strange non-cola taste.
Looking almost pure enough to be called healthy.
Having the coolest soda name ever!

4. Bell-ward never happened.
I'm not talking book 1, 2, or 3.
But the fourth atrocity that makes me vomit in my mouth.
The freaky child baby with man teeth.
The bed braking you know what.
Gross.

5. Ice Ice Baby was still numero uno.
When saying "word to your mother" made you cool.
You'd say "Stop" and I'd say "collaborate and listen"
And together we could bust out the running man and dance like crazy.

Ah...those were good times. Man, lets get outta here.
Word to yo' mother.

New fashion designers/Collections| Licia Florio

Licia Florio_Simplicity reborn
Licia Florio is part of the new generation of Milan young fashion designers.
Born in 1985 in Piedmont, she moved to Milan to study at Istituto Marangoni and she currently lives in the italian capital of fashion design.
She created the brand Licia Florio with the purpose to produce elegant, sober, but innovative collections, the perfect combination of lively talent, deep studies and a real Made in Italy.
She claimed fashion insiders’ attention due to her ability to create items that transmit a sense of balance, mastery and freshness.
The AW 2011/2012 collection is an interesting mix of asymmetric cuts and overlaps of fabrics that as final result lead to creations with a bon-ton aftertaste and a minimalist taste.
The predilection for soft shades is spaced out with wise touches of black wich dim the little doll effect and give an halo of urban dynamism.
Licia Florio’s creations join together the typical italian good craftmanship with a nordic boho-chic taste.
A brand to keep tabs on.

Simple Pleasures - Rainbows

Sometimes I feel sorry for my husband.  When I showed him the prisms I'd bought he said, "Cool.  Where are you going to hang them?"

You have to give the guy credit.  He really is fabulous.  Trust him to figure out a way to hang my prisms from our skylights.  But I suppose we need to give Short Pants some credit too!

They both agreed it was worth it, though.  We now have a gorgeous rainbow-filled bedroom (err..ignore the lack of trim!):

The next skylight, being above our stairs, was a bit trickier to figure out.  But with the brains of my husband, the pole he uses to change the lightbulbs in our living room (remember, we live in an a-frame!), and a bit of plastic from the recycling bin it all worked out:

And again - totally worth it:

What simple pleasures have you been enjoying lately?
