summer days are gone too soon

heidi-ho bloggerinos.
I'm not entirely sure how to spell "heidi-ho" but that version seems phonetically accurate.

in case it hasn't come across so far on this blog, Aberdeen isn't exactly known for it's gorgeous summers. whenever a little sunshine seeps through the clouds I try and take full advantage. mind you it's still never that warm so full advantage just means taking a walk until it starts to rain again.

seriously, it rains every day. I'm thinking about moving to a desert when Brandon's done school.

this particular walk was after my interview with Topshop. this is what I wore to said interview. and fyi it was raining before we got back to our apartment.

for the record, these are probably the cutest shoes I own. I want to wear them with everything. except that it turns out they are a beyotch to wear. I was so excited when I tried them on in the store and they were "sooo comfy..."
oh well. it's not like I get to wear heels that often anymore. such a waste of 75% of my shoe collection, sitting lonely in my dark, still unorganized closet...

maybe that's why they hurt so much. I'm out of practice.
yes, yes I'll go with that.
(also it totally bugs me that the t-strap was crooked the whole time, arg.)

play a love game

this past weekend was the Scottish Highland Games in Aberdeen. yes, it really is like you picture; large men in skirts, throwing heavy things. that's the gist of it.

we met up with some friends and walked around a little and hid from the rain. it was cold, but fun!

there were LOTS of people wearing kilts and playing the bagpipes. and a guy carving bears with a chainsaw(not quite sure what that has to do with anything...). and little Scottish fling dancers that I didn't get a picture of... I say little because they were children. not because they were midgets. or little people.
moving on.
and I got to hold a barn owl! CUTE.

I wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion, I guess. considering it rained, and most people there were wearing jeans. but when do I ever dress for the occasion, really?

a few notes on these pictures:

1. I must say I'm quite dismayed at my recent tendency in photos to not have a chin... what has happened to it? I've stopped eating fast food, chin, now you have to stick around. otherwise I'm becoming one of those people whose faces are just extensions of their neck.

2. sorry about the stain on my knee. I was kneeling in wet grass to get a photo.

3. I really need some new american apparel tights. I love them. they're expensive, but by far my favourite. I love welovecolors too, but it seems like their darker colours aren't as stretchy as the pastels. and since I've put on a few pounds in the thigh area they're getting a little...fall-downish. maybe I should just spring for the microfibre kind and give them a go? either way I have far too few colours left in my hosiery collection.

that's all from me! I'm a working lady now so I have to get to bed at a sensible hour. meaning before 4am.
love!

99 problems...

a while back, I mentioned at the end of a post that one thing I was going to miss about living in Canada was shopping at modcloth.

I have a second thing I'm going to miss.
THE FOOD.

I love the UK, but the food here SUCKS. and there's so much you just can't get here; bold bbq doritos (*wails dramatically*), kraft dinner, processed (read: non-disgusting) peanut butter... they don't even have junior chickens at mcdonald's!

but the weird part is how hard it is to cook north american recipes. I went to the grocery store today and had to cut my list in half because of the amount of things they just don't use here. examples? chocolate chips, jalapenos, decent bbq sauce, pancake mix, cranberries, chipotles... it keeps going but those are the weirdest. I'm sure the list will continue to grow as I continue to cook.

anyway I just wanted to share that little rant with you.

and now on a totally unrelated note, here is what I wore!

lace bodysuit, pink bodysuit + socks- american apparel // skirt- h&m // shoes- ebay

back to pastels again. and lace! I love this lace bodysuit so much, I've practically worn holes in it already. and I never do that with clothes. I wore it a lot when I worked at AA.

I kind of built this outfit around the shoes, though. I've been wanting a pair of plain yellow pumps forever, and I was having no luck. I randomly found these on ebay for 5gbp (about $9) and I instantly knew I wanted to pair them with my pink socks.

the shoes are pretty comfortable, which is great for $9. but they're too darn big! every pair of shoes I own is too big for me! I don't know if my feet shrunk or my shoes stretched or what, but it's impossible to wear heels without ankle straps to hold them on. I don't get it. it's the smallest sizes you can possibly get- 6 US, 3UK- and they fall off my feet.

oh what's a girl to do?

summertime blues

I am absolutely pining for summer. Aberdeen has yet to display any semblance of the season; pleasant warmth and sunshine are still very rare. I'm from Newfoundland, so I guess I shouldn't complain- we aren't exactly known for our lovely weather- but I feel like summer.

I want too-hot afternoons and lazy sunbathing and days spent in the park and popsicles and freckles on my shoulders and swimming just to cool off.

I want to go somewhere devastatingly warm.

dress- forever 21 // blazer- zara // belt- suzy shier // tights- american apparel // wedges- fr. twisted sisters // necklace- bridal shower gift

it may look warm and sunny in these pictures, but it was mostly windy and cool. oh camera, how you lie.

this is what I wore to my first job interview in Aberdeen! exciting. it's no big deal, just a retail job, but I need funds asap... so I reeeeeally hope I get it. cross your fingers, please!

I went slightly more...neon than I've been going for lately. right now I'm all about airy pastels (again, must be an innate longing for summer heat) but I couldn't resist going a little 80s with this amazing hot pink blazer! I like how electric-popsicle it looks with the blue dress. which, by the way, is made from the weakest material ever. I've already had the seams re-stitched because the fabric was tearing away from the thread and now, after just one more wear, it's happening again. forever 21, you hand out some gems, but this is not one of them.

on the other hand, these may be my new favourite shoes ever. they proved their awesomeness when the buses in the city centre were cancelled after my interview (shouldn't they tell you that in advance? especially when you're buying a day pass?). I made the 45 minute walk home with little more than a mild ache in my feet. moral of the story is, wedges are my friends, buses are not.

see you in the shallows

seems it's becoming a bit of a habit of mine to take weekends off from blogging... I assure you, it's not intentional!

I've had a fairly exhausting week and have taken a bit of a technology break for a couple days. of course for me that doesn't include cameras.

Brando and I actually got to go to the beach on saturday! I can't tell you how much I love the ocean. I'm from an island, it's born in us. the sound of the waves, the sea-salt smell, the extensive electric blue. it felt so good to run around barefoot in the sand. I would never be able to live too far from an ocean.

and yes, those are my impossibly pale legs.

dress- vintage, birthday gift fr. Brandon // cardigan- zara // shoes- seychelles // belt- fr. outfit

so you know those amazing vintage dresses I was pining over? Brando got me one for my birthday! I'm the luckiest (don't worry, it wasn't one of the $300 ones!).

it really needs to be tailored as it's a tad large and too long, but I couldn't wait to wear it. besides, if I hem it, I lose the prettiness at the bottom!

all these lovely, midi-length skirts and dresses that I'm craving are making me want to invest in a petticoat. yes, I believe I would be a very happy petticoat girl.
