This is my first wash and go using gel. I have been scared because I didn't want to end up with dry and crunchy hair!! However, using the leave in conditioner greatly helped!
How did I prep my hair?
I co-washed my hair using my giovanni's conditioner. If you are unfamiliar with co-washing, this is a method of washing your hair using conditioner only. I find that it keeps my hair moisturized in between washes.
What products did I use?
I used bio infusion olive oil leave in conditioner and Eco styler gel. You can use whatever leave in conditioner that works for you. I like bio infusion because it is very light. In addition, feel free to use what gel works for your hair. I like Eco styler because it gives a good hold without being too crunchy.
How did I do this style?
After co-washing, I:
-sectioned my hair in 5 sections using clamps -saturated one section with water using my spray bottle -applied leave in conditioner on that section following with a generous amount of gel -made sure the section was fully saturated with gel -continued to the next 4 sections -shook my head to separate the curls when all of the product had been applied
How long did it take me to do this style?
Less than 30 minutes! It goes very fast actually.
How long does this style last?
I left it in for 3 days. I am sure it can last for 5-7 days easily. The trick is to apply a generous amount of gel so that your curls stay nice and defined!
How did I maintain this style?
At night I tied a silk scarf over it. In the morning I sprayed it with water, shook, fluffed and that's it!

Don't you think that a low bun should be called a "down-do"? I think that makes sense so in Kendra world that's what it shall be :)
I just started school this week and it's been crazy. I haven't had time to do my hair as fancy as I like it but I am experimenting with simple yet cute styles. For me the easiest thing is a bun but they can get boring.
So here is a braided style with a bohemian flair! What did I do?
I began this style with stretched hair from a flexi-rod set. I put in 2 French braids in the front. Then I did 2 small braids. Next, I pulled my hair back into a low bun and pinned in fly-aways. Then I pinned back the braids. Following that I pulled out two small pieces of hair at my temples and wrapped them around my finger for curls. To top off this style I added one of my favorite headbands!
Hello Ladies! I feel like its been forever although it has only been 5 days :)
I want to show you a quick and easy style that I am wearing today called a side curly bun. You can wear it for church, work, or anything really. Its a cute and fast style to achieve.
How was my hair before doing this style?
My hair was already very stretched to where it looks blow-dried. I have been doing twists on dry hair to keep my hair stretched for the past almost 2 weeks. I washed my hair last a week and a half ago and co-washed once.
How did I prepare my hair?
Before going to bed I:
Distributed aloe vera gel throughout my hair. I used about a quarter size about 3 times.
Sealed it with jojoba oil and raw shea butter
Put 2 large flat twists in the front
Put 6 large twists in the rest of my hair
Rolled the twists with 4 flexi-rods
Tied up my hair with a silk scarf
I didn't use a comb to detangle, I just used my fingers. Again, my hair was very stretched so it didn't need much detangling.
How did I do this style?
In the morning I:
Removed the flexi rods and twists
Shook my hair for body
Pulled the back into a side bun
Pinned back the front
Added a flower
Literally 5 minutes later I was done! I timed myself :)
Hello there ladies! I haven't done box braids in a while. But I decided on this style when I washed my hair. I plan on taking them out in a few days for a braid out, depending on how I feel. I definitely like the convenience of them.
Why box braids?
Great protective style
Easy maintenance
Stretches hair (better than twists in my opinion)
Clean and neat style
You can wash/co-wash your hair with them in
Transitioning-friendly hair style
How did I do it?
Start with freshly washed and de-tangled hair
Use some type of moisturizing and styling product for moisture and hold.
I used shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie and bioinfusion olive oil leave in conditioner
Braid to the size of your choice
When I get to the ends of the braids, I curl them around my finger for a nice finish on my braid out
It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes for a medium size
How do I maintain this look?
In the evening, moisturize with about a nickel size of oil (I use jojoba)
Tie it up and go to bed!
How long can I leave them in?
A week to a month there is great flexibility with this style. In the past I have done these smaller and left them in for a month. The great thing about them is that you can wash them with limited frizzing.
Transitioning-friendly? What do you mean?
Transitioning in 2009
This was one of my favorite transitioning styles. As you can see in the pictures below, my ends are still relaxed. I didn't always braid them all the way down either which is another option. However, this style kept my hair up and out of the way. It was versatile with styling options, easy to wash and ended in a cute braid out when I finally took them out!
Do I do them on wet or dry hair?
I did mine on wet hair this time but you can do it on wet or dry hair! It is up to you :)
So give box braids a try! God bless you!
Sorry for the car pics- I am always on the go! But I love ya'll and this blog so I get my pics in however I can :) LOVES!
Hello there ladies! This is a style I do often with flexi rods. However, I curled my hair differently this time around.. Stay tuned!
Step 1: My hair was already in medium size twists on stretched hair. I put a moderate amount of aloe vera gel on my twists to dampen them for rolling.
Step 2: I curled my twists on the flexi rods and wrapped it up for the night!
I put the flexi rods in this way in order to get spiral curls!
Step 3: this morning I took it all out and ended up with bouncy, spiral curls!
I styled them and added a modest addition for flair ;)
You rolled your hair differently on the flexi rods, why? I rolled my hair this way to keep the hair stretched and to get spiral curls. Rolling this way elongates your curls and works against shrinkage!
Hello ladies! Yesterday I reached the 1 week mark for my lovely mini twists! I am enjoying this low maintenance protective style. My husband asked if I can do it all the time because it looks pretty :) He is so sweet!
I would like to share with you a few pictures of styles I have been doing with my twists!
All of my styles have been up so that my ends do not rub on my clothes.
Every style is protective and cute because my overall goal is to retain length as my hair continues to grow.
If you have not read the post I wrote when I first put them in a week ago, you can read it here!
I achieved this style by looping my hair around 3 fingers and pinning the ends under. In essence it is just a loose pin curl. This is a very simple way to add flair to the front of any style- you know the Pentecostal touch :)
This style is the front swoop I just described along with a high bun. Notice that my ends are tucked under away from the sun as much as possible. For a modest addition, I added my new metal braided headband that I picked up from an Aldo accessory store. Its one of my new favs!
This is the close up of my high bun! As you all know this is a favorite style of mine. With the summer heat- it has really become a go-to style for me! It keeps me cool :)
To create this style,
I put 8-10 flexi rods in my hair that was moist with leave in conditioner, aloe vera gel and jojoba oil overnight
In the morning, I released the flexi rods and separated the curls
I left a few curls out in the front
I then pulled the rest to the side with a banana clip
