DatFunkyFro's 2011 Fall Tendencies

source

Last week I could still wear a t-shirt now I'm sporting cardigans. Glory be to God, the year has gone by so fast and it seems like yesterday that I celebrated the New Year with my family and friends. It's evident Fall is here and frankly, I welcome it with open arms. I think I have secretly long awaited the Fall in my heart and looked forward to it subconsciously. It was a great Summer, no doubt, and they only ever get better but it's time to experience the wonders and chills of the Fall.

Of course, with a new season, comes new tendencies, well, at least for me. This applies to different areas of my life and is valid for different specific points in my world. I am particularly excited about this Fall because to me, it's another chance, another season of change and metamorphosis.

So with no further ado, here are some of DatFunkyFro's very own Fall Tendencies you need to keep an eye out for :

NATURAL HAIR

This Fall, I feel more more prepared than I was with my natural hair last Fall. This is what I am going to be doing this fall with my natural hair :

● Moisturizing with a water based moisturizing cream along with just plain water everyday

● Sealing with OMO OGO Naturals' butters, preferably the Shea - Cocoa Hair Butter

● Styling hair in lazy updos, protective buns and simple yet elegant styles

● Following my Healthy Hair Challenge as scrupulously as I can

● As little manipulation as possible

WARDROBE

I am particularly excited about my dressing this Fall but I am not at all talking about me going shopping or anything like that because, believe me, I am surely going to be looking through my wardrobe and digging up some old wears to play with and I'm going to be mixing them all up.

● I am going to try mix matching colors - who says you can only have color in the Summer? I don't. Watch out for the colors.

● Will be putting it all together - simple as that

●Will be going to be going with a bit of funky elegance and simple retro - let's what happens

● Accessorizing - I have always loved accessories but I don't think I have ever been able to put them together until now therefore I will be taking advantage of them to warm up the Fall

FOOD | HEALTH

● Work will be tilted towards drawing up and maintaining an exercising routine

● My eating will be monitored to avoid anything that does not benefit my health directly

SKINCARE

Since from now on, it's only going to get colder, I am going to be stepping up my game in moisturizing, protecting and nurturing my skin by applying my present regimen and coming up with even better strategies

LIFESTYLE

These past nine months have been a blast but they have also thought me a lot. I now truly know that we cannot take life lightly at all and we have to be 100% grateful for all we have and even what we don't. I believe these three coming months will be amazing by the grace of God and all I am about right now is love; being grateful and living each day to the fullest, walking according to the knowledge of God and in the light if His will.

By the grace of God, I will accomplish these and much more because I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me (Philippians 4 : 13)!

Weight Loss : September Update

source

It's been nine months since I started my weight loss journey and I'm still working at it.

This past month, I mainly focused on avoiding sugar and fried food. Looking back now, I can say it's been a good month though during these last few days, I have indulged in a few sweet delicacies.

My goal was to loose 2 kilos/4.4 pounds but I ended up not loosing anything but rather I am still as light as I was last month. I do prefer this to putting on weight so I am content.

Thinking about it now and looking back these past nine months, I can boldly say, we are not all alike. We do not have the same type of bodies, that is to say, the same type of metabolisms therefore, we cannot all loose/put on weight in the same manner or by using the same methods. Everyone is different. I look around and I see some people who never put on weight, no matter what they eat and in fact, I know a lot of people like that. And then there are those that just have to cut down on their eating to loose some weight. Other put on and loose weight overnight - no joke.
Now I look at me, and try to understand me, my own body - how it works and what makes it tick this way or that.
After all the reflection, I have come to understand that I am one of those who easily put on weight, meaning, my metabolism is not as fast as it is for others and the only effective way I shed weight is by exercising. Exercising has worked in the past for me, even more that controlling what I eat. Generally, I don't think I have a bad diet, in fact, I think otherwise. In my family, we eat lots of vegetables, fruits and little sugar but what seems to be effective to me in loosing weight has been exercising.

I cannot say during these past nine months I have not learnt a lot about what to eat and when to eat it because I have and I have acquired some new and healthier eating habits however I believe the area I really need to work on now is exercising.
My short term dream is to fill my life with exercise. It is advised for us to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day but right now, I cannot even boast of half of that. There is no doubt I need to step my game up in this department and I believe when I do, I will begin to see some accelerated changes concerning my weight and this, along with all my new healthy habits, will help me attain and maintain a healthy way of life.

I want to take this time to thank you all for supporting me through this journey...you do not know what a great support you have all been. God bless you all abundantly!
I also want to encourage those on a similar journey...keep on going and take it one day at a time. Remind yourself over and over again of your goals and try to find something to encourage yourself with for times you get down (not food!!). Have fun with your journey because believe it or not, it is quite fun and stay focused!

If you are on a similar journey, how is it going?
What are your goals?

Weight Loss : August Update

source

Blessings and love beauties!!

Eight months later, here I am, still into my weight loss journey...

I'd wanted to post this update from the beginning of the month but I'd been avoiding getting on the scale because I have not been watching my eating habits or getting any real exercise. So naturally, I was expecting to be heavier.
Frankly, I don't know why I was avoiding it so much, but I guess I didn't want to have a confirmation of what I already suspected or even maybe knew.

This past month has been the worst actually, when it comes to watching what I ate and exercising.
I indulged in sweets, cookies, too much fried food, junk food and didn't drink enough water.
I place the blame on my studying.
I have been studying for exams for more than a month now and personally, it's been tiring and energy consuming...thus why I sometimes found myself indulging in so many sugary snacks.

To me, this is not an excuse, and I am still working towards an exercising plan and trying to get back to all the healthy eating habits I acquired during the earlier months of this journey but right now, I am taking it one day at a time.

When I got on the scale today, with great hesitancy, I checked it out and I found that I was still more or less the same weight from my last update in July. I probably put on a few grams because the needle was a bit to the right.

I am not discouraged but I do feel I have some work to do. I would like to loose some more extra weight and get anchored in my healthy eating habits.

I encourage everyone on a journey like this to not give up, but rather, keep on going!!
Take it one day at a time and stay focused!

What are your suggestions and ideas for me?
